Skin Allergy and its Types

While a healthy Great Dane may remind you of a chiseled Olympic athlete Danes are not famous for their health. Their short hair is a blessing and a curse. It is easy to take care of, requires little maintenance, no cutting, does not hold dirt, but as a rule short haired dogs are more prone to skin allergies.

The most common of the allergies which I appropriately call bald butt, not sure about the scientific name, seems to appear during hotter weather or when a Great Dane is stressed. I have seen it happen with both of our adopted Danes the first year we had them and return only mildly in following years. The only remedy that I have found to work for any extended period of time is a steroid sot administered by the vet. This is not the cheapest option and you have to watch out for accidents afterwards but it is effective. Repeated bathing seems to make the problem worse.

Allergy is a condition in which the body tends to react due to hypersensitivity to some substance such as food, drugs, drinks, pollution, flowers, and others. An allergen can be anything under the sun that might cause a reaction in one’s body if the body disagrees with that substance. Types

It is often caused by viral infection, latex, or food and usually disappears spontaneously. It is a result of the chemical histamine in the skin’s upper layers. There are special cases of chronic hives, however. Angioedema is swelling of the skin that sometimes accompanies urticaria. It normally occurs at the eyes, hands, feet, and lips. It causes a burning to stinging sensation. If hives is at the upper layers of the skin, angioedema reaction is found at the bottom layers.

Contact dermatitis has two types, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) caused by allergens and irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) resulting from caustic substances reacting with the skin. Contact dermatitis causes rash. A quality of ACD is that it only occurs on the skin area right where the offending agent comes in contact. ACD is characterized by itching, redness, and blistering of the skin area after touching the plant poison ivy or poison oak of the rhus family. Touching the rash can produce another reaction, except when the rash area has been already washed. ICD is considered to be painful than itchy. The offending agent actually damages the skin.

Atopic dermatitis, commonly called eczema, is a widespread skin allergy. Eczema mostly appears in the face, knees, and elbows. It is also known to occur on the chest, scalp, and feet where a person scratches. There is no cure for it. Eczema is an itchy, red, and scaly rash. It may produce oozing at times. Scratching of the affected areas should be avoided. Excessive scratching results in broken skin. Lubricating and applying cold compress is helpful in easing the effects of eczema.

We all have stress in our lives and end up getting tension headaches as a result. It doesn’t matter what caused the stress, it happens and we get tension headaches. Weakness,Causes and Treatments

I see it in someone who thinks they are not ready to run a 5K race even though they have been running for months. I see it in those who believe they can’t handle a kick boxing class despite being proficient at dance or gymnastics. I also see it in those who think that they are too old, young, tall, thin, fat, skinny, or any other adjective that they believe makes them weak.

My art teacher in grade school once told me that black (Or was it white?) is not a real color but instead is the absence of color. In the same way, weakness is not a real characteristic but is instead a lack of strength. So in this way, I only see strength. Some people have different levels of strength but it’s still strength and only strength exists.On the other hand, some things in life can steal your strength. An unbalanced and depriving diet, an exhaustive workout routine, and not enough rest can sap anyone of strength just as a robber can steal your money.

Negative and critical people can also steal your strength making you feel less capable and strong. Strength can also slowly seep out of your life if you are not challenged and encouraged to grow. A job, a hobby or a relationship that is too easy and offers no challenge can make anyone bored, tired and steals your strength.There are the two old standbys that many people use. The first answer is that you do not have any weakness which will affect this position. The second answer is that you are too much of a perfectionist. But let’s face it; no one is going to buy into either of these answers. The interviewer is going to sense that you are trying to con them.

The best thing to do is to be prepared. Come with a list of three weaknesses. The important thing to stress is that you are aware of these weaknesses and to tell what steps you have taken to improve them. This is key. Do not throw out minor weaknesses and just leave it at that. Give the interviewer a real weakness but then explain how you overcame it. Like Knute Rockne once said: “Build up your weaknesses until they become your strong points. The following is what you should do.

Weakness 1.

I am not confident speaking in public. I was never comfortable speaking in public or in front of a group of people. I realized that I needed to overcome this and so I joined Toastmasters. That experience has helped to overcome my fear and now I no longer dread speaking in public.

Causes

In my own experience, the intense anger I felt over my spouse leaving and filing for divorce had a lot to do with not being able to control what was happening to me. I was losing my spouse, my home, my dream of being a wife and mother, my status in society… all of it was changing rapidly and I could do nothing about it. My natural reactions of shock and disbelief were followed by anger, distrust, resentment, and questioning why it all happened. Those feelings made it easy to barricade my heart behind the concrete wall of cynicism. I pledged I would never allow myself to trust so blindly again; I would not allow myself to be weak again. And here, I made my biggest mistake. I vowed to be strong and self-reliant, in control of my own destiny. Yet God not want that. He needed my weakness. That may sound odd, so let me explain…

Similarly after divorce, it’s hard to envision how God will bring about a better plan, when it requires you to be weak. You question weakness is necessary. Try it. Look to Christ. His example of weakness is excellent: He was born a tiny, helpless infant relying on others for everything! Food, clothes, shelter, education – all of it needed to be given, not hunted and gathered. He hung on the cross at Calvary in what the world saw as complete powerlessness, yet it became the greatest triumph in history. And today, Christ appears powerless in the tabernacle. His example of weakness illuminates the sacrifice He made for us. Christ offers Himself to us. And that is what He wants from us in return: our weakness and complete offering to Him.

Treatments

All people like to view themselves in a positive light. No one likes to be considered a failure or a lesser
human being. But everyone has weaknesses. Most of the time people tend to ignore their weakness and focus on showcasing their positive attributes. There is nothing wrong with showing your positive attributes but you can’t ignore your weaknesses.

When people ignore the things that they are bad at, it tends to come back on them later in life. Let’s make an example of this situation. Some people are excellent writers. But when it comes to talking to people, in a face to face situation, they are a walking, talking disaster. Communication is a revered and necessary skill. One can never expect to get through life without the ability to communicate a point verbally.

As human beings, our complex communication skills put us far beyond any other animal. Because human beings can communicate math, history, science, sociology and a wealth of other subjects many things never get lost.
