Remedies of Anemia

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Diabetes is one of the most common condition affecting millions of people world wide. It is believed that every hour a person is diagnosed with diabetes worldwide. Anemia is an extremely common symptom and also secondary condition in people who suffer with diabetes.High blood sugar is actually a condition that affects the kidneys and the kidneys produce erythropoietin hormone. This hormone is essential to control the production of the red blood cell and in people with diabetes the production of red blood cells may not happen normally leading to anemia. The most common symptoms of anemia are palpitations, shortness of breath, weakness, pale skin color, hair loss and also dark circles around the eye. This condition when noticed in diabetic people it can be a sign of anemia.

Anemia’s most common symptom is therefore tiredness, because the body does not get enough oxygen. The body makes these cells within the marrow of large bones. The marrow is in the center of the bone. In the normal course of red blood cell life, old RBC’s are eliminated and the body must be able to make new ones. If the bone marrow can’t produce enough new blood cells to make up for the normal loss, a person has this disease. In one type of this disease, the body makes abnormal red blood cells, and in the other type, the body’s immune system attacks the red blood cells. The destruction of red blood cells can occur in the bloodstream or it can occur in the spleen. A common form of hemolytic anemia is called sickle cell anemia, and is found mainly among those of African or Mediterranean descent.

Anemia treatment can be very simple and painless. Better yet, it can be done drug free, the natural way. Anemia is a very serious condition as it represents a deficiency of red blood cells which carry oxygen to the various parts of our bodies that need oxygen. So let’s have a look at how to tackle this problem and put it in our past. Were you aware that you can become anaemic from the use of certain prescription medications? This includes some antibiotics or anti-coagulants which help to thin the blood. Sometimes anaemia may be due to suffering a chronic illness or you may acquire it genetically. So it is useful to determine what has caused you to become anaemic in the first place.

There are several things that cause Anemia. The most common factor is due to a lack of iron intake in ones day to day diet. Ensure that you take in an efficient amount of foods such as red meat, spinach, liver and molasses. Vegetarians need to be especially cautious and make sure that they take enough Vitamin C which promotes the absorption of iron.
Another ways to become Anemic is through the excessive and continual loss of blood. Certain people are more prone to becoming Anemic than others. For example, pregnant women, who need to take twice as much the amount of iron as a normal person. Vegetarians are also more prone as they do not eat red meats. Additionally, people who drink large amounts of tea are more prone since tea is known to prevent iron absorption in the body.

The main causes of anemia are loss of blood, not enough red cell production or faster destruction than manufacture of red blood cells.Your red blood cells have a protein called hemoglobin inside which carries oxygen round the body. So they are vital to your everyday health. There are different types of anemia depending on the cause. Probably the most common is iron deficiency Anemia caused by blood loss and which commonly affects women with heavy periods.
A second common type is pernicious anemia. This happens when your body can’t make enough red blood cells due to poor absorption of vitamin B12. It can be due to a lack of a vital protein called intrinsic factor without which the body cannot absorb B12. It also occurs in a poor diet, especially when combined with alcohol problems.

Blood transfusions do not provide permanent cure but they help relieve the symptoms through giving the blood cells that are not produced by the bone marrow. Transfusion of red blood cells helps reduce signs of fatigue and anemia. The transfused cells are expected to remain inside the body for a month or so. However, there are risks like over-accumulation of iron in the body and development of antibodies that fight the effectiveness of transfused blood cells.

Transfusion of platelets is made possible through hemapheresis. It is a process of separating platelets from a donor’s blood by a special machine. The blood is returned to the donor and the isolated platelets transfused to the patient. Transfusion of white blood cells is not easy because these blood cells have very short lives and are very difficult to isolate.

Anaemia treatment is vital as, left untreated, it could develop into more serious diseases that could be life-threatening. In the majority of cases anaemia can be treated by improving your diet and by taking iron or folic acid supplements as these are lacking in someone who is anaemic. You want to look at adding red meat, fish, egg yolks, shellfish and chicken to boost your intake of iron from your diet. Also excellent are dried fruit, nuts and seeds, lentils, beetroot, leafy green vegetables, whole grains (note not whole wheat).

Remedies of Acne

Monday, November 30th, 2009

If you have been, suffering from acne, and wish to become acne free. Then you must first drink lots of water, water will help your skin become more flexible. Therefore, you should drink about five to seven cups of water each day. When our bodies sweat, we are actually removing toxins from our bodies that have a tendency to cause acne.
Also, be, careful of what food you eat, a healthy diet could in fact keep you from risk from acne. Like for instance, certain foods and drinks will cause your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. On the other hand, more oil will cause your pores to clog if too much oil is, produced. Therefore, the extra oil causes spots, to form on your face, known as acne. Eat more fruit and vegetables, these foods will keep unwanted acne away for good.Be, sure that you get plenty of exercise. Also, make sure you get plenty of rest. Exercise will make your body sweat therefore, help in releasing toxins from your body. These toxins can cause acne to form if pores become, clogged. In addition, do not over exercise, the more you sweat the greater the risk of acne.

If you or someone you know suffers from acne, there is, however, good news. There are literally pages and pages of acne medications available to you, these acne medications can be, found on the Internet, as well as on store selves. Most of the acne medications on the selves are over the counter, however, it is, and still best advised that you consult with a doctor before ever using any of these medications.Let us look at prescription medications. There is a long list of prescription medications, which play an important role in acne treatment. Here is, just a small list of the many proven prescription medications a person with acne can use. Interlesional Corticosteroid is, simply an injection, which will lessen the inflammation of cysts. Cysts are the leading cause of acne; however, the Interlesional injection will simply eliminate the cysts preventing acne from even forming.

Acne is a pervasive skin disorder which hinders people worldwide. A lot of time and money is spent on research just to find out exactly how acne develops and how to eradicate it. In the process, so many medicines, treatments, and other products have emerged in an effort to effectively cure acne. Seven popular treatments are being used nowadays to prevent or eradicate acne.Examples of such acne treatments include traditional antibiotics, Accutane, various herbal medicines, Accutane, Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid and Retin-A. Accutane, also known as Isotetinoin, is recommended for cases of severe acne wherein other treatments have been proven ineffective. The patient takes Accutane over a four- to six-month period. Bacteria, a component of acne, can be eradicated by antibiotics.

Antibiotics are usually utilized to purge acne from the root of the skin. Examples of such antibiotics include Clindamycin, which is applied directly to the skin in lotion form. There are also other antibiotics such as tetracycline, which come in pill form. Benzoyl peroxide is another popular treatment which has been proven to cure acne. Alternative herbal medicines, on the other hand, are newcomers in the quest to fight acne.

Herbs have been theorized to control the body’s oil levels plus other bodily factors which may contribute to acne growth. Retin-A, also known as Tretinoin, is composed of Reinoic and Vitamin A acid, and is used to cure acne, prevent sun damage, and smoothen out wrinkles. Dead skin cells are flaked off, and follicles are unplugged. Salicylic acid, on the other hand, helps in slowing down skin cell shedding in follicles. This treatment can be purchased even without the prescription of a doctor.

Blemishes are known to strike at will. Especially if you are a teenager, the chances are that you may be suffering from either blackheads or whiteheads. To be able to get rid of them, you would be required to cleanse your face with fresh water and mild soap. You simply need to remove the excess oil from your face. There are plenty of anti-blemish supplements available in the market today. In order to avoid the occurrence of whiteheads and blackheads, you need to try and apply an anti-blemish cream on a regular basis. These creams are readily available through an online store. Simply place an order and the cream of your choice would be delivered to your doorstep.

Acne is a Greek word meaning spot or point. It is a skin disease but not dangerous however it can be very unpleasant to see. When acne appears they tend to be several spot or point like on the patient’s face, neck, chest, shoulders and back. It is caused by the clogging of the tiny hair follicles. It is characterized by unsightly and often painful lesions on the surface of the skin and below. Acne is widespread especially during adolescence and a lot of people experience acne at some point during their lifetime. There are many myths about what causes and cures acne. However sadly, scientists up to this stage of modern and advanced technological knowledge has not been able to find a medical cure for acne.

Some people feel that spearmint is better for treating pimples, but I feel that that using a medicinal herb that is menthol-based such as peppermint is much better. What is great about it is that it can be grown in most climates, so you can actually grow it on your own.The method involved for treating acne with mint is to first of all crush the leaves thoroughly. Then just apply the juicy substance and the crushed leaves mixture to the area that contains the pimples. You should try to leave it on these areas for around ten minutes. The final step is to rinse it off by simply using water.

Arrhythmia,Causes and Treatments

Friday, November 27th, 2009

So if you ask. ‘What is sinus arrhythmia?’ then there are other things too associated with it. However, a sinus arrhythmia certainly does not mean that an individual is suffering from an unwarranted disease, especially no heart disease as such. Many arrhythmias, particularly arrhythmia is found to take place in people who do not have the least symptom or inkling of any heart disease. In most of the cases, even if an arrhythmia is found to exist alongside a heart disease, it is in all likely possibility that the patient will likely die of the heart disease than of the arrhythmia, particularly sinus arrhythmia.

A heart in atrial fibrillation (also called A Fib) is beating erratically, irregularly, and quite fast, up to 200 times per minute.  Normal heart beats 60 to 100 times per minute. People do not die from atrial fibrillation, but it can cause all kinds of problems and side effects, such as palpitations, anxiety, dizziness, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, chest pain, and fainting. If not properly treated, it can lead to heart failure and even stroke.

The pacemaker of the heart is called sinoatrial node. Normal cardiac stimulus starts from the right atrium (the right upper chamber of the heart) and travels through the atria and down to the ventricles (the lower chambers of the heart). The fast movement of the heartbeat is called Sinus tachycardia. It is due to exercise, excitement, pain, exertion or over secretion of the thyroid hormone. Usage of caffeine also stimulates fast heartbeat. So lack of normal sinus rhythm is called arrhythmia. In simple words it is abnormal heart rhythm.

Causes

CPR can prolong the survival of the brain in the lack of a normal pulse, but defibrillation is the intervention which is most likely to restore a more healthy heart rhythm. A slow rhythm, known as bradycardia (less than 60 beats/min), is usually not life threatening, but may cause symptoms. When it causes symptoms implantation of a permanent pacemaker may be needed. Either dysrhythmia requires medical attention to evaluate the risks associated with the arrhythmia. The signs and symptoms of cardiac arrhythmias can range from completely asymptomatic to loss of consciousness or sudden cardiac death.

Complaints such as lightheadedness, dizziness, quivering, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, heart fluttering or pounding, and forceful or painful extra beats are commonly reported with a variety of arrhythmias. Beats are generated by electrical impulses in the atria (top chambers of the heart) and are then conducted to the ventricles, where they produce the powerful muscle contraction that pumps blood. People may have allergies or idiosyncratic reactions to many other foods and beverages that cause transitory arrhythmias. Long-term nicotine exposure and any cocaine exposure can cause much more serious arrhythmias.

Defibrillation differs in that it is used for ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and more electricity is delivered with defibrillation than with cardioversion. Arrhythmias may involve medications (anti-arrhythmic therapy), catheter ablations, and implantation of pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD). Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) or CRT-D (CRT with defibrillator therapy) is an innovative therapeutic option for patients with refractory HF. Defibrillation differs in that it is used for ventricular fibrillation and more electricity is delivered with defibrillation than with cardioversion. Antiarrhythmic medications help to change the electrical signals within the heart to suppress or prevent the arrhythmia.

Treatments

1. Using a small, battery-powered generator to deliver timed, electrical impulses to the heart muscle through tiny wire leads.

2. The treatment for some patients is a technique called cardiac ablation.

3. Magnetic Guidance in the Heart While transcatheter ablation is very effective, it can be difficult.

4. Stereotaxis Niobe Magnetic Navigation System uses two superconductive magnets, a magnetic-tipped guide wire and advanced computer imaging techniques.

5. Atrial fibrillation can also be treated through a procedure, e.g. pulmonary vein isolation.

6. Fibrillation differs in that it is used for ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia.

An artificial pacemaker is an electronic device placed under the skin on the chest. It helps the heart maintain a regular beat, especially when the heart beats too slowly.

Cardiac defibrillation (very brief electric shock) can be used to stop an abnormal rhythm and restore a normal one.

Surgery can correct certain types of arrhythmias. For example, arrhythmias caused by coronary artery disease may be controlled by bypass surgery. When an arrhythmia is caused by a certain area of the heart, sometimes that part of the heart can be destroyed or removed.

Schizophrenia,Causes and Treatments

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Schizophrenia is a chronic, relentless, and disabling brain disease. In fact, it can be defined as a disorder characterized by a range of cognitive and emotional dysfunctions that basically involves instability in the content of thought, perceptions, language and communication skills along with fluency of thought and speech and interpersonal functioning. More often, it affects an individual’s capacity to “think straight.” Thoughts may come and then may go easily and rapidly and an individual may not be able to focus on one thought for very long and may be easily distracted.

The sensory overload usually causes a hallucination. People who are born with it generally have irregular brain cell patterns. Drugs and stress do not cause schizophrenia, but they can certainly exacerbate the symptoms. In some cases, family members who understand very little can agitate the symptoms by using an accusing tone of voice or reacting angrily to the sufferer.

Family members who know about schizophrenia can learn to recognize symptoms of an acute attack: a change in personality, social withdrawal, sleeplessness, agitation, using words that do not make sense and seeing things that aren’t there. It is important to create an environment that facilitates recovery. Keeping peace and serenity at home, helping the schizophrenic set realistic goals, sharing tasks, gradually increasing independence and encouraging new hobbies can all provide schizophrenia support.

Strange emotional responses characterize the second type, which is called disorganized schizophrenia. Symptoms of schizophrenia for this type may include emotionless facial display, a monotone voice, or the inability to laugh, cry and show any emotion. Sufferers may exhibit signs of “psychomotor poverty,” disrupted speech patterns, a lack of spontaneous movement or motivation, derailment, thought disturbances and reality distortion.

Causes

The first step for Frese was going on Risperdal, a schizophrenia drug, to control his powerful delusions. Frese defines his paranoid schizophrenia as “inherited vulnerability to breakdown” — triggered by stress, conflict, substance abuse, death or loss. While undergoing treatment of schizophrenia, he went to school and held several jobs.He met his future wife, Penny, while in graduate school. Though she was initially unaware of his condition, she wound up making a terrific companion – always eager to learn more about mental health treatment and coping with the medical symptoms. She also says that she trained herself to not feel personally offended if her husband couldn’t maintain eye contact or finish a complete thought. She adds that it’s important to avoid making accusations or causing heightened emotions if her husband begins to describe a delusion. Instead of reacting harshly, she will say something like “Tell me more” or ask him if he would like another Risperdal to ease his fears.

The third type is called catatonic schizophrenia, which is the stereotypical view of a person rocking back and forth in a strait jacket, staring vapidly — sometimes rambling incessantly, or at other times being completely mute. The symptoms of this type may include making jerky, bizarre movements, with arms and legs flailing about for no reason. The catatonic schizophrenic is incapable of caring for him or herself and is characterized as having a very severe mental illness.

The fourth type is referred to as undifferentiated schizophrenia, meaning that the symptoms cannot definitively classify the disorder as one type or another. Some patients show all the different symptoms or a few from each category. These patients sometimes lack catatonia, paranoia and disorganized speech, but may instead exhibit symptoms of a neurological disorder.

Treatments

Treatment. Treating clients with schizophrenia are categorized in two ways, by using medications, and through psychological treatment. Psychotherapy is widely recommended for use in treating schizophrenia, although it does not directly affect the symptoms. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is also used to learn new techniques of solving problems, and help cope up with delusions and hallucinations. It is used in targeting specific symptoms. Counseling and Family Therapy is another treatment designed for both the client and the family members to find ways in effectively coping with the situation or problem. Some patients with severe cases also respond to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and or transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).

When someone is out of touch with reality in this way, they are called psychotic. Some people have only one episode of psychotic illness in their life, others have several with remission in between, and others have them most of the time. Alternative therapies can be useful for all these people but may not be appropriate in a crisis. Conventional drug medication can usually prevent psychotic episodes, but people who are very distressed or dangerous to themselves or others may need the shelter and protection of a hospital or specialized care unit.

After the patient is subdued, other medicines are started. These include Sarpagandha (Raulwofia serpentina), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) , Brahmi ( Bacopa monnieri), Ajwayan(Hyoscyamus niger)), Raupya Bhasma, Suvarna Bhasma and Puran Ghruta. Different medicated ghrutas (ghee) are used orally, such as Kalyanak Ghruta, Panchagavya Ghruta, Brahmi Ghruta and Jatamansi Ghruta. Some physicians advocate the use of “Panchakarama” procedures like induced vomiting, induced purgation and medicated enemas.

Fibromyalgia,Causes and Treatments

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Fibromyalgia is an arthritis-like disorder. While it does not inflame the joints, muscles, or other tissues or harm them, it does lead to noticeable pain, stiffness and fatigue, and can hamper a person’s regular life. Its symptoms include irritable bowel syndrome, headaches, painful menstruation, deadness or tingling of the limbs, uneasy legs, sensitivity to temperature, cognitive and memory difficulties (”brain fog”).

Detecting fibromyalgia is quite difficult as most of the symptoms are similar to those of other problems, no symptoms are evident which will help the doctor and no conclusive laboratory test. It can be diagnosed only clinically, based on the background of chronic extensive pain that lasts for over 3 months along with soreness in a minimum of 11 from 18 particular sore point areas. Treatment fibromylagia is beneficial if it includes a combination of knowledge, stress minimization, exercise and medicine. According to research, aerobic exercises like swimming and walking, enhance muscle vigor and lower muscle pain and soreness. Heat and massage can also offer temporary relief.

Although researchers and doctors have not been able to cure this disease completely, they have come up with drugs that can reduce the pain and improve the quality of sleep. Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the drugs that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Lyrica is the first drug that has been approved by FDA. It was initially approved for epilepsy and later on in 2007, it was approved for fibromyalgia. Cymbalta and Savella are the antidepressants that can ease pain and fatigue associated with fibromyalgia. Drugs such as Cymbalta and Savella are prescribed in low doses for the treatment. These drugs can disturb sleep, so for best results it should be taken in the morning. As compared to Cymbalta, Savella is a better drug for pain modulation. Savella has higher ratio of norepinephrine and better efficiency than Cymbalta.

Causes

Next comes the cellular pain. I can literally feel the excitotoxin being distributed to each segment of my body. Every limb and organ will start stinging in pain as though you were waking up from a long nap and all of your nerves were still asleep. Then my neck, shoulders and the bottom of the back of my skull will pulse with their migraine madness. Last but not least, the heart palpitations start and this, maybe the worst reaction of them all because the adrenaline and anxiety will drive you to extreme physical endurance. I once ran seven miles one night after not having run in 30 days, just to try to relieve the anxiousness I was feeling.

The first objective findings that indicate a vegetarian diet may benefit fibromyalgia patients come from a 1993 study published from the University of Oslo, Norway. They placed fibromyalgia patients on a 3-week vegetarian diet and measured peroxide levels, plasma fibrinogen, and serum lipid before and after the diet. At the end of the study, there was a decrease in serum cholesterol that was positively correlated with reduction in body weight, mean serum peroxide levels fell, and mean plasma fibrinogen levels decreased, and subjectively, seven of ten fibromyalgia patients reported an increase in health status in the form of improved well-being and reduced pain.

Whenever you are looking for information on fibromyalgia, be it medical journals or internet articles the one definition that stands out is widespread pain in muscles and joints. Fibromyalgia is distinguished from other rheumatic conditions such as tendinitis or bursitis because the pain and stiffness is widespread, whereas in tendinitis or bursitis the pain is localized to a specific area. That is why fibromyalgia is known as a syndrome rather than a disease. A syndrome is a collection of symptoms that can occur together but are not related to a specific cause. A disease is a medical condition with identifiable symptoms and causes. Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic pain all over the body with multiple tender points, severe fatigue, sleep problems, anxiety and depression and all can be happening at the same time.

Treatments

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that causes muscles pain and fatigue. The disease adversely affects the quality of life and the person suffering undergoes severe pain. The pain involved is described as aching or burning. The pain is generally felt in the muscles, tendons and ligaments. People suffering from fibromyalgia have tender points that hurt when pressure is put on them. Headache, morning stiffness and numbness in hand and feet, sleep disturbance, anxiety, lack of stamina, irritable bladder, muscle spasms and twitching, skin sensitivities and depression are some of the early symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia can be difficult to deal with if you have to think about work, office, and family. In general, people with fibromyalgia have a constellation of different pains, which can affect the joints, bones, or muscles, and which can spread throughout the body. These pains can be difficult to treat together, which is why different painkillers, anti-depressants, and even anti-seizure drugs are recommended for people with fibromyalgia. Under naturopathic treatment fibromyalgia can also be eased.

Fibromyalgia, formerly know as fibrositis, is a common and chronic condition affecting the muscles. This condition is present more in women between the ages of 35 and 55. Stress, trauma and infection are believed to cause fibromyalgia. Common symptoms include pain, fatigue, emotional disturbances, headaches and abdominal pain. Unlike other rheumatic conditions, fibromyalgia is not associated with tissue inflammation. Patients affected with this condition appear to have an increased sensitivity to pain, which is wide spread and involves multiple tender points all over the body.

Binge Eating Disorder,Causes and Treatments

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Physical symptoms resemble the symptoms of any overweight or obese person. Binge eaters have a tendency to put on weight and are likely to suffer from many of the health conditions associated with being overweight, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol, heart problems, osteoarthritis, kidney problems and irregular periods.

Binge eating disorder is an eating disorder in which the sufferer consumes food, unusually large amounts of food, on a regular basis in a brief period of time, hungry or not and continues to eat until they feel rather uncomfortable. These bouts are usually followed by feelings of guilt. Here the sufferer does not induce purging after binging unlike in the case of bulimia. This eating disorder is a problem, which affects both men and women but it is more common in women. This unhealthy habit of overeating tends to develop during childhood.

Unable to cope – Studies have shown that some individuals who cannot handle their emotions like sadness, anger, stress etc and even people who have a low self esteem often turn to binge eating in order to cope better. They binge eat in order to hide from these various emotions.

Binge eaters are obsessive about the foods they crave. They may even go to the extent of fantasizing about the foods they love, focusing on the texture and smell of the food. Because they eat in large quantities and at great speed, they are very secretive about binge episodes and prefer to binge when they are sure they will not get caught. Thus, they may keep the secret from friends, family and even their spouse. Binge eaters go to great lengths to hide or dispose of food containers so that they will not be caught

Causes

If you suspect or know that your teen is suffering from an eating disorder, you are probably doing everything in your power to help him or her. Unfortunately, it’s likely that your child is not interested in your help, and could actually lash out at you for offering your advice or ordering him or her to do something else. You need to find out what to do when an eating disorder causes you to fight with your child, because just getting angry with him or her will probably cause an even bigger fight and widen the distance between you.

Depression – No one actually knows for sure if depression is a cause or an effect of binge eating disorder but it has been noted that about fifty percent of the individuals with this disorder have a history of depression or are depressed. This depression may be even totally unrelated.

Treatments

Binge eating disorder is most effectively treated through a multi pronged approach. Patients need to take necessary steps to improve their emotional well being. They will also be required to change their behavioral patterns so that they reduce temptation and cap the free availability of foods they crave. In addition to these, sometimes patients will also need medication to address psychological issues.

The Food and Drug Administartion (FDA) of America has not approved any specific drug to treat binging. Various medications have mixed results when it comes to treating this disorder. However, according to some studies, supplementing therapy with medication may make it easier for victims of binge eating to overcome their disorder.

The anticonvulsant Topomax was originally used to control epilepsy. However, studies show that it can help weight loss and alleviate symptoms of obsessive compulsiveness in people suffering from binging. But, Topomax too has serious side effects like clumsiness, unsteadiness, dizziness and drowsiness.Anti-obesity medication: Appetite suppressants like Meridia have been helpful in reducing the number of binging episodes. Side effects include changes in blood pressure.

Eating disorders may very well start off as a preoccupation with food and body weight but there is definitely much more to these than just foods. Eating disorders usually are long-standing illnesses, which require long-term treatment and are often accompanied by other psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety, depression and drug abuse.

Rosacea,Causes and Treatments

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

A face cream for rosacea may be effective if it includes essential nutrients and natural anti-inflammatories. The problem is that most creams on the market contain ingredients that can cause additional redness, itching, irritation and contribute to, rather than reducing, inflammation. Here’s how to tell the difference:

Most people suffering from the chronic redness have several things in common. One is that their skin is sensitive to temperature changes and irritants of other kinds. It’s hardly possible to avoid temperature changes unless you live in the tropics. But, it is possible to avoid other irritants.

It can be difficult, though, because most major cosmetics are literally packed full of skin irritants. There are no rules requiring that manufacturers limit the number or amount of irritants included in a cosmetic, except in the case of a handful of hazardous toxins. One would think that toxins wouldn’t be included in skincare products at all. But they are just the same.

Some of the ingredients that you want to look for in a face cream for rosacea are natural anti-inflammatories. One of the newest on the market is derived from sheep’s wool. Like lanolin, another sheep’s wool derivative, it is hypoallergenic and harmless.

The new compound is being called Functional Keratin by the company that discovered how to gently extract it from sheep’s wool. It is actually a protein that is very similar to the skin’s own. It has been used to treat dermatitis, a common inflammatory skin condition, reduce wrinkles and as a general moisturizer. The antioxidant coenzyme Q10 may help as well.

Causes

The usual symptoms of Rosacea includes red areas on face, tendency to flush or blush easily, small red bumps, pustules on nose, cheeks, forehead and chin – not similar as whiteheads or blackheads -, red bulbous nose – rhinophyma -, visible blood vessels on nose and cheeks – telangiectasia -, burning or even gritty sensation in eyes – ocular Rosacea -. The statistics show as one in two people from those who suffer Rosacea experience also the ocular Rosacea symptoms. In particular situations, Rosacea may cause a condition known as conjunctivitis – the inner skin of the eyelids become inflamed or appear scaly.

Each person, every organism responds in an unique way to the Rosacea symptoms. Some people may have allergies to certain chemicals from medications or lotions, the human body of other else can have other reactions than in other cases where the treatment was successful. An alternative method for Rosacea treatment are natural cures verified in long time period, so as Mr. Robert Campbell presents in Banish Rosacea. The results could it be amazing, without expensive procedures, without prescriptions – and there it is nothing about so called “miracle creams”. This will help to bring back your lust for life and to keep your skin healthy.

Different things affect people with rosacea in different ways. For instance, some folks go beet red when they have a glass of wine or other alcoholic drinks. If you find yourself getting a glow on while having dinner at a nice restaurant, perhaps you’ll have to cut back, or simply forgo anything with alcohol. With hot foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, soup, or hot chocolate, you can simply wait until it cools off.

Treatments

The first way to help this naturally is to simply take care of your skin. While it might seem easy and simple to do it is the most important thing to do. When you wash your face use warm water and make sure you don’t scrub too hard but nice and lightly as to not irritate the skin. The next thing to do is use skin cleaners that don’t have strong chemicals in them and look out for products that have a large content of alcohol. If you don’t follow this it can lead to more outbreaks and even worsen the condition.

The second tip is to watch out for triggers. Some common triggers are prolong time in hot weather; hard workouts can even trigger it too; Stress is another trigger for Rosacea. To help the cure for Rosacea, try and keep your stress levels down. Stress can be the worst thing for any condition from weight loss to Rosacea.

To start your Rosacea care we need to first understand what it is and how we can recognize it. It is one of most common skin diseases out there and is effecting about 1 of 20 people here in the US alone. And even a greater ratio in under developed nations where sanitation is worst than here. Researchers still don’t know the exact reason why certain people get it and why others don’t and is currently being researched as to why some get it. The main symptoms of Rosacea are redness on the nose, cheeks and the forehead. And sometimes these can flare up to be so red that it can be quite embarrassing for some.

There are some available treatments out there to take care of Rosacea. The first step and most used for sufferers is by going to the dermatologist. They will usually prescribe a lotion that will relieve the redness. This cost overall can be quite high due to the doctors visit and prescription but there also other ways to go about it. Home remedies is another choice that others use. From green tea to vitamins you can forget about the doctor’s office and do your own Rosacea care at home with natural ingredients.

Diabetes,Causes and Treatments

Physicians and dieticians teach their patients with diabetes to properly monitor their blood sugar levels, to take the right amount of insulin, and above all, to maintain a proper diet. Proper diet partnered with medication has been the prevailing wisdom when it comes to controlling the disease of diabetes. However, recent studies have shown that with diet alone it may be possible for patients to not only maintain their healthy glucose levels, but to actually reverse their diabetic condition, without medication.

There are over 10,000 new cases of diabetes cited each year in the United States. This disease, which affects close to 10% of the entire population has continued to claim hundreds of millions of dollars in research money and close to 200 billion dollars in lost economic output. Diabetes, is a condition where the body is either unable to produce enough insulin which regular the levels of glucose in the blood, or when the insulin is produced the body is unable to respond to it.

Diabetes when complicated or when blood sugar levels are not properly maintained for long periods of time can cause destruction or dysfunction of these nerves. This can cause reduced sensations and even reduced blood supply to the lower extremities. Obesity usually accompanies Diabetes. This in turn can cause an excessive strain on the loco motor system.

Causes

A similar diet based plan for diabetes reversal takes the low-fat model to a higher level by focusing on the vegan diet. In this plan, diabetics are encouraged to cut out all animal proteins, and animal-based proteins, including cheese, eggs, and animal fats. This diet is based on cultures in which the consumption of animal fats is relatively low, and in which diabetes is almost non-existent. Studies have indicated that when patients follow a more plant-based diet their bodies become more sensitive to the insulin being produced, whereas a fatty diet can cause the body to be more resistant the insulin.

In a basic explanation, the food you eat becomes sugar that will be taken to the muscles, tissues, and organs of the body by means of the blood stream, to be transformed into vigor and liveliness. Subsequently, particularly if the meal was high in carbohydrates, you will have high levels of sugar in the blood stream, which prompts the pancreas to discharge even more insulin until the excess sugar is absorbed by the cells.

Important levels of insulin in the blood lead to a sequence of biochemical reactions with extensive consequences. As well as prediabetes, it can lead to a diversity of severe health conditions, such as the group of enlarged danger for cardiovascular disorders called Syndrome X (metabolic syndrome) and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), a primary cause of female sterility as well as menstrual abnormality, excess body and facial hair and skin conditions.

Treatments

The pancreas produces two hormones insulin and glucagon, which help the body balance blood sugars levels. The healthy function of the pancreas is important to a person’s ability to process sugars and starches, a poor functioning pancreas can lead to diabetes.

The following yoga exercise is also beneficial to the function of the pancreas and is better for a beginner than previously mentioned poses.
Lie on your stomach with your arms up over your head, palms facing each other. Your legs should be straight and comfortably apart. Slowly raise your legs and arms so that your weight is shifted to resting only on your abdomen.

The ushtrasana or camel pose, and the dhanurasana or bow pose, have specifically been found to help the function of the pancreas and benefit people with diabetes. However, theses two poses may be challenging at first.

Patients must be counseled by their physicians to be aware of these problems. They must be encouraged to take extreme care of their feet. Always wash the feet with a mild soap or antiseptic solution. Never leave the feet wet, because fungal infections thrive in damp areas. Pat dry the feet with a soft towel.

Shoes should be selected with utmost care. Always wear socks inside shoes. Open shoes are a strict no for these patients. Even the tiniest wound should be immediately attended to. Nails should be trimmed regularly. Never allow them to in grow into the nail bed. Always check shoes before putting them on. Even tiny particles or gravel can irritate the skin and lead to infections.

Bleeding gums is common for the millions of Americans who are experiencing gum problems. Amongst these gum problems are gingivitis and periodontal disease. Most of the time, it is the result of the improper removal of plaques in the gum line.

There are some other serious medical conditions associated with the gums bleeding such as diabetes, leukemia, platelet disorders, heart disease and pancreatic cancer.

There are signs which indicate a person is having a periodontal disease. Amongst these are: having a bad breath or bad taste which are hard to get rid of, swollen and bleeding gums, difficulty in chewing, sensitive teeth, gums which are unusually unattached to the wall of the teeth, unstable fitting of the teeth whenever biting and unstable fitting of partial dentures.

Smoking, diabetes, poor oral hygiene and stress are amongst the reason of the increased risk of periodontal disease. There are prevention and treatment for people going through this disease. They are advised to at least visit their dentists at least once or twice a year for dental cleaning. Daily oral hygiene is also advised. Whenever a person brushes or flosses, it decreases the possibility of bacteria build up in the mouth.

Keeping a clean mouth and clean teeth is healthy and allows for easier eating. It can also increase confidence when smiling, laughing, and talking. Taking care of one’s mouth is important at any age, but senior citizens should take special care as they are at especially high risk of experiencing complications with teeth and gums.

We discuss some common problems that senior citizens may have with mouth care. Senior citizens should be aware of these problems, so that they can actively prevent, identify, and treat them. Caregivers should encourage healthy behaviors and assist the senior if they need medical or dental attention.

The secret to the perfect white teeth is regular care of them with a good toothbrush (need not be expensive, just good and suitable), suitable toothpaste and the correct technique to brush your teeth. Blood from the gums after a thorough brushing isn’t what we are talking about.

There is a need to undergo checkup at first sign of bleeding gums so dentists may be able to know what is causing it. If the result isn’t as severe, the patient may undergo minor treatments such as dental cleaning. If the doctor was able to determine that it is something related to a more serious case, preventive measures are done.

Brush your teeth twice a day. Once in the morning and again before you head to bed. Brush thoroughly and take your time. Many people in the morning are in a rush, but try to do a very good job and do not rush yourself.

To have perfect white bright teeth brush them, but gently; the gums are delicate. We don’t want white bright teeth with bleeding gums. Make your teeth bright and healthy too. Take care of them and they’ll serve your chewing job for years without a complaint.

Instead of experimenting with our own popped up ideas consulting a dentist has better results without a doubt. To see a doctor with regular intervals can not only keep your precious teeth under care but also help keep them healthy without an extra effort.

So are you ready to start your journey towards white bright teeth?

Do:

1.    Brush your teeth twice daily.
2.    Use a good toothbrush that’s gentle to your gums.
3.    Visit a dentist once in two months and get your precious teeth an expert’s advice.
4.    Not all people have similar arrangement of teeth, so instead of copying one’s style of brushing the teeth, ask your dentist for the correct technique.

Don’t:

1.    Force your toothbrush on your teeth.
2.    Prick your teeth with sharp pins for cleaning them.
3.    Try every other brand of toothpaste or toothbrush available in the market. That won’t help.

How to Control Alcohol

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Alcohol abuse is the excessive consumption of alcohol disregarding the detrimental consequences on the mind and body. If a person regularly consumes alcohol to get mental relief, then he is an alcohol abusive drinker and not an alcohol addict. While it is possible to convince an abusive drinker of his detrimental condition and impel him to go in for treatment, the same can be a tough job as far as an addict is concerned.

One of the primary causes of alcohol abuse is stress, which can be of two types- developmental and situational. Complete cure of an abusive drinker is possible, provided it is identified and treated at an early stage.

Just like we have “workaholic”, we also have an alcoholic. What I am attempting to say is that once you are given over to bottles of alcohol, you are an addict. A workaholic is often engrossed in work without viewing time.

He or she is never weary of working. The same thing applies to an addict. As soon as you can take alcohol without control, you should know that you have problem.

Drinking alcoholic beverages during social functions is a common practice among adults. Occasional drinking poses no treat to health but sometimes the occasional social drinking can progress over time into alcohol abuse. Alcohol abuse has varied effects on our bodies and chronic drinking can pose major health risks.

Alocohol Effects

The human brain is made up of about 100 billion nerve cells (also known as neurons). Everything that we think, feel or do is the result of electrical signals passing back and forth between neurons.

These electrical signals require the help of chemicals called neurotransmitters in order to pass from neuron to neuron. Scientists have identified around 60 different neurotransmitters so far and tell us that there are probably many more yet to be identified.

The most common type of antibiotic-drug prescribed is penicillin, but this is not the only antibiotic your doctor might suggest. Typically, antibiotics are safe, with only very mild side effects, if you experience side effects at all.

Some common side effects, no matter what kind of antibiotic-medication prescribed to you, are diarrhea, fever, and nausea. In general, side effects happen because the antibiotics kill “good” bacteria along with bad bacteria. Usually, you don’t have to worry unless the symptoms are extremely severe.

Alocohol Control

But the lesson learned in the Coachella Valley holds true also for restaurants and hotels in Long Beach, San Diego, Orange County, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Irvine, Huntington Beach, orange, Costa Mesa, Carlsbad, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, Buena Park, the Inland Empire area of Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, and Temecula and up the coast to Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo as well.

Until you make the decision as to what YOU will find interesting and fun versus downright childish and stupid, you are a prisoner or a sheep in a herd. It also means you are definitely not in control of your life.

If you are not in control of your life – I mean here emotions, decisions and lifestyle choices then you will I am guessing almost certainly suffer from self-esteem issues, unhappiness and maybe anxiety and depression. I believe the more control we have over our lives, the better we feel about ourselves and our lives.

Many people wonder why some people can consume alcohol without any consequences, while others drink without limits. One reason has been linked directly to genetics. Another factor has to do with the environment and peer pressure, while a person’s brain chemistry can play an integral part in how a person drinks alcohol. In most cases, it is a combination of the above.
